Tummy tuck surgery is also known as abdominoplasty. This is a cosmetic surgery conducted to make the abdomen to look slim and firm, by removing the excess fat and skin from the abdominal area and waistline. Fascia and mucles are also modified to tighten so that the flatter appearance is given. The stretch marks are possibly minimized.

Need for Surgery

Types of Tummy Tuck Surgery

There are multiple procedures performed during abdominoplasty.

  • High Lateral Transition

    • This procedure is usually done under general anesthesia and takes about or sometimes more than 4 hours. The procedure involves the tightening of the fascia and muscles along the horizontal and vertical planes. The result of the procedure will be instant and flat abdomen can be seen, right after the procedure.

  • Complete Abdominoplasty

    • The surgical procedure is done under general anesthesia and the time taken for it is, 1 to 5 hours. Initially, a long incision is started from one hip joint, passes through the area of the pubis and reaches to another hip joint. Another incision, but a smaller one is needed to be done on the surroundings of the naval, so that it gets from the skin surrounding it. Surgeon detaches the skin from the muscles, fascia and abdominal wall and these are clearly visible. Then the surgeon tightens the muscles and fascia using sutures. Excess skin is get trimmed after pulling the skin. Liposuction is also added during the transition from the operated area to the un-operated area. This procedure gives better and even look to the abdomen. If there is any excess fluid, it will be drained using the pipes. Compression garments and dressing will be applied on the surgical area.

  • Mini or Partial Abdominoplasty

    • This surgical procedure is done under the general anesthesia and it takes only 1 to 2 hours of time to complete, as it is a partial and shorter procedure. The procedure needs smaller incisions. The surgeon detaches the fat and the skin present in the lower abdominal area from the fascia underlying. The excess skin is removed after stretching the skin. Then the surgeon removes the belly button stalk from the below muscles and then it will be shifted towards the lower part of the abdominal wall. Then tightening of the abdominal fascia is done, followed by liposuction performed in the zones of transition to add better look.

  • Floating Abdominoplasty

    • This procedure is also called to be extended mini abdominoplasty. Smaller incisions are needed to remove the fat and tighten the fascia, muscles and skin. It is not performed near the belly button. If there is any excess skin, it will be removed. During the procedure, belly button floats. The surgeons tighten the muscles from the sternum towards pubis. Once the shifting is done accordingly, the belly button is then reattached. Liposuction is also done on the transition zones.

  • Extended Abdominoplasty

    • This procedure is also performed under the general anesthesia. It takes more time. A long incision is done in between the trunk towards the thigh. The surgery is a combination of the complete abdominoplasty and fat removal from upper thigh outer aspect and the flank.

  • Circumferential Abdominoplasty

    • This surgical procedure is the combination of the extended abdominoplaty along with the buttock lifts. The incision is made around the torso. This procedure is also known to be body lift or belt lipectomy. This procedure is suitable for the candidates, who have gone through massive weight loss.

  • Combinational procedure

    • This is a surgery performed in combination of multiple procedures like, lower body lift with liposuction contouring, breast lift, breast reduction. If needed, hysterectomy is also done. When the procedure combines abdominoplasty with breast enhancement, the combined procedure will be mommy makeover.

Recovery

The recovery takes from 1 to 4 weeks of time and during this period, the candidate is advised not to perform strenuous activities.
