The cancer in this muscle generally starts to grow from the the inner layer of the esophagus and then it get spread to the surround tissues. The cells which are affected by cancer also break off and then they find their way to the various other parts of the body making other parts to grow cancerous tumours. This process is called metastasis. It is still cannot be known what causes esophagus cancer.

But one thing is known to be sure and that is the risk factors that boost your chances of developing the disease include being over the age of 65. Then the factor of being male also adds up the chances and if one has the habit of smoking or drinking heavily. Unhealthy diet and obesity along with acid reflux also encourages esophagus cancer.

Symptoms and the diagnostic test that are needed for the esophagus cancer

Esophagus cancer characteristically does not present any kind of symptoms. Still there are some causes when you may consider going to the doctor for diagnostics and that is when you are facing difficulty in swallowing, when you are facing unexplained weight loss. Even if you have chest pain it may mean there is some problem and you need to check yourself at least once. This special cancer is also associated with fatigue.

The tests that are required to diagnose the esophagus cancer include endoscopy, biopsy and x-rays. The three are completely different procedure that you will require to go through to get the report that whether you have cancer or not. During an endoscopy the doctor will place a hollow tube with a lens down on the throat which will reach the esophagus. Then he or she will scrutinize the esophagus and search to find the spots of irritation.

The x-ray of the esophagus is another procedure that is used. The patient has to drink a thick liquid that will coat the lining of the esophagus. Then an x-ray is carrying out to think about the lining. The last resort is through biopsy, in which a special scope will pass the throat into the esophagus and collect a sample of suspicious tissue. Once the patient is diagnosed with esophagus cancer, the doctor will determine the extent of the cancer.

Treatment of the Esophagus Cancer

People with esophagus cancer have quite a lot of treatment options. The choices in which the disease can be treated are surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Even the combination of these treatments is also used to cure a patient. With which of these the patient depend on the current situation of the patient and on various other stuffs like where the cancer is located within the esophagus.

It is also seen that whether the cancer has invaded nearby structures or whether the cancer has spread to lymph nodes or other organs. The symptoms are also been noticed. The general health of the patient is also very important to look on.
