Penile implant is also called as penile prosthesis.  The treatment is one of the oldest treatments effective for the erectile dysfunction condition. The implant is the medical device and it is implanted in the corpora cavernosa related to the through a surgical procedure. Penile Implant Devices

The penile implant devices are of two types.

    • Noninflatable Semirigid Devices

These devices have rods get implanted in the erection chambers present in the penis. The rods can be bent in various positions, according to the need in the sexual course. The penis is semi-rigid in these devices and so it could be difficult to conceal.

    • Inflatable Devices

Inflatable devices are of hydraulic. These are filled with the saline and has inflatable cylinders present in penis’s erection chambers. A pump is used and kept in the scrotum. It can be inflated or deflated by the activation of the patient. The patient can inflate the device by squeezing the pump for number of times. Then the fluid gets transferred from the reservoir and reaches the penis’s chamber. After the intercourse is completed, the pump will them be deactivated. After deactivation, the penis will be returned to the flaccid condition. The fluid is stored in the reservoir, which is placed in the abdomen. The device works for longer time, almost a decade and sometimes even more. After it wears out, the device can be replaced.
