Greenlight Laser Photoselective Vaporization of the Prostate or simply Greenlight Laswer PVP is the surgical procedure to treat the BPH or Benign Prostate Hyperplasia. It is recently added to the minimally invasive technique for treating BPH.

BPH is the prostate gland enlargement. The result of the BPH will be urethral restriction. Prostate gland is found below the bladder neck, as small gland that circulates the urethra. Procedure

GreenLigh Laser PVP is an easy and so conducted as an out-patient procedure. The urologists are specially trained in the laser technique. Anesthesia is given as either spinal or general anesthesia and sedation is also added. A small cystoscope is inserted near the obstruction by the surgeon. At one end of the fiber, the light pulses are radiated. And the light is directed towards the area of the overgrowth of the cells. Blood absorbs this light and gets heated to vaporize the nearby tissues. The light is continued to apply, until the tissues are destructed and the urethra is then restricted. After the cells are vaporized the heat is sealed off from the blood vessels. Less bleeding is seen when compared to the other treatments. A catheter is inserted temporarily to the bladder to drain the urine. The entire procedure takes one hour of time.

The procedure makes use of high power laser light technology that is combined with fiber optics. The overgrowth present in the cells of the prostate is vaporized accurately and quickly. The laser is directed to the prostate and the intense light pulses from the fiber will be absorbed by the blood. The temperature of the blood will be increased to a great extent that the cells nearby will be vaporized.

So, greenlight is now used as an effective alternative to the TURP or Transurethral Resection of the Prostate. The efficiency and simplicity of the procedure increased its growth by practitioners and patients.
